Jon Stewart


Jon Stewart, born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, was born November 28, 1962 in New York City, New York. He was raised in Lawrence Township, New Jersey. In 1971, Jon's parents divorced, which was very difficult for him. Jon began to use comedy to get through the divorce and ease the tension. Jon attended College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia where he majored in Psychology. Before making it big in the entertainment industry, Jon worked several jobs including a bakery worker, a puppet master in southern NJ grade schools, a bartender, busboy, and a construction worker. In 1987 he began doing stand-up comedy which led him to doing high-profile shows for the Las Vegas comedy circuit. In 1999, after working for other TV shows, Jon began his job as host of The Daily Show. He currently has a contract with the show through 2008. In 2001, Jon filed a petition for legal name change to Jon Stewart.
