TLC, launched in 1972 originally as The Learning Channel contains reality based series featuring information and how-to styled shows. Owned by Discovery Communications since 1991, the schedule contains many imported series from England and/or a US version of those series. Unlike other similar series on other cable stations, the TLC shows feature a more in depth look at the subject at hand. After the Discovery Communications took over the channel the focus tended to shift from educational purposes to include a more broad, mainstream audience. The channels name would also see a change, removing the word "Learning" from title and simplifying it to TLC. This shift would result in a programming change to reality styled personal and medical dramas and home improvement shows. With Discovery Channel also making a change, over came the popular
American Chopper series along with more law enforcement, weather related series and dating shows.
