The Gulf of Mexico is home to over 49 species of sharks, and it’s not uncommon for locals and tourists to spot one swimming along the coast. More often than not, these usually docile creatures stay away from humans. But in 2005, shark attacks along the Gulf of Mexico exploded, five times more than the average.
