NBC Sports Network will provide broadcast coverage in the U.S. of the "Volvo Ocean Race" while Outside Television will provide broadcast and digital coverage during the nine-month race that covers 40,000 nautical miles.
The race starts Oct. 11 from Alicante, Spain, and finishes in Gothenburg, Sweden, in June.
NBCSN's coverage will feature 39 half-hour shows airing primarily in late afternoon weekend slots beginning in late October.
Outside Television will air spots every Monday at 10:30 p.m. Eastern. Coverage on OutsideTelevision.com will includes digital streaming of the leg starts, in-port races, news features and live look-ins with the boats.
Each of the seven race crews will have a multi-media specialist who will shoot video, interview sailors and send footage back to the race headquarters daily via satellite.
The only U.S. stopover is in Newport from May 5-17. Among the seven race crews will be the joint U.S.-Turkish entry Team Alvimedica based in Newport, led by American skipper Charlie Enright. (Source: NBC Sports)
