The animals of Farthingwood are driven out of their home, the forest, by humans who want to destroy the forest and build their own version of a habitat. The toad, however, knows the way to a wildlife resort, the "White Deer Parc" and the animals set out to go there and find a new home.
They swear an oath that during their journey, none of them will eat/attack another. But they soon have to realize that the world outside the safety of their forest is anything but friendly and nobody knows how many will make the journey. And if they do arrive at the White Deer Parc, who says they will be welcome?
This is a very lovable series about loyalty and respect, but it's not like Disney where good fights against evil and always wins. It's much more realistic, although it's weird to see a fox peacefully talk to a mouse. It offers all, humor, romance, tragedy, drama and action alike and not only shows how much wildlife has to suffer from mankind, but also how you can't always expect a happy end. But it also shows, that by fighting for your goals, you can achieve things. However, as animals are shortlived, many character deaths are to be moaned. MANY. Each of the characters has their own personality and none can be forgotten.
Not only children, but also adults, love and appreciate this show for its value and beauty.
There are 3 seasons - the journey to the White Deer Parc, their life there with their rival Scar Face and their fight against the rats. The last season seemed to be forced into existence however, as names have suddenly changed, the animation is poor and the whole plot is completely useless.
I absolutely recommend this show to anyone who appreciates a good story with animals as the main characters without them being deformed into super-cute Disney-critters. These animals will hunt, they will kill, they will be run over by cars - but not in a way I child couldn't take it.
