Koothrappali is not happy when his parents inform him that they have set up a blind date with a girl he knew from his childhood years. Apparently, the girl bullied Koothrappali a lot. His friends try to cheer him up, but there is no way out of it. Meanwhile, Penny has gotten a job that includes mixing drinks and she wants to practice mixing for the guys. However, everyone make a shocking discovery when Koothrappali has a drink, and manages to talk to the opposite sex.

Episode Notes |
| |
The letter B has been omitted from the name the bottle of rum Penny shows Leonard while Sheldon is drunk, playing the keyboard in a bar. It is actually a bottle of Bacardi rum. | Rating: 9.39 million | This episode marks the first appearances by Rajesh's parents, though we only see them through webcam on Raj's computer. | The title ("The Grasshopper Experiment") refers to the drink Penny mixes for Rajesh, which (unexpectedly) enables him to talk to women. | According to Sheldon, a virgin Cuba Libre is the same as a Coke. | Not counting a goof in an earlier episode, this is the first time we can see Rajesh actually talking to a woman, even though it's because of a drink in this episode. |

Episode Quotes |
| |
Howard: Is it just me, or does web chatting with your clothes on seem a little pointless? | Rajesh: I had such plans. I had dreams. I was going to be the Indira Gandhi of particle astrophysics. But with a penis, of course. | Rajesh: Ever since I was a little boy, my father wanted me to be a gynecologist like him. How can I be a gynecologist? I can barely look a woman in the eye! | Sheldon: Sorry I'm late.
Leonard: What happened?
Sheldon: Nothing. I just really didn't want to come. | Rajesh: If you do not stop hitting on my lady, you will feel the full extent of my wrath.
Sheldon: I'm not hitting on her.
Lalita: And I am not your lady.
Howard: And you have no wrath. | Howard: (to Penny as she is mixing drinks) I'd like to try a Slippery Nipple. |

Visual: Sheldon wears a sweater with an image of, and a text saying, "Aquaman".
Aquaman is a fictional superhero in the comic books of DC Comics. The character was first seen in November 1941 and was created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. Aquaman has also had appearances in several animated and live-action television programs. The character is often mocked both in pictures and in pop culture, as the superpowers of Aquaman are useless in comparison to all other superheroes' powers. | Sheldon: It's right here, under Batman's signature.
Batman (also referred to as "The Caped Crusader", "The Dark Knight", "The World's Greatest Detective", "The Bat" and originally as "The Bat-Man") is a fictional comic book superhero in the DC Comics. The character was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, and the first appearance was in May 1939. | Howard: Doogie Howser's been off the air for like 20 years.
Doogie Howser was a TV comedy/drama starring Neil Patrick Harris as a brilliant doctor also facing the problems and issues of being a normal teenager. The show aired on ABC from September 1989 to March 1993, producing 4 seasons and 97 episodes. | Howard: I bet they love Scrubs.
Scrubs is an American comedy/drama created by Bill Lawrence. It originally aired on NBC from 2001-2008, but changed to ABC in 2009 and it is currently still airing on ABC. The show premiered on October 2, 2001, and currently it has a number of 9 seasons and 170 episodes (including one double-length episode). | Howard: It's the premise of Fiddler on the Roof.
Fiddler on the Roof is a musical featuring the music of Jerry Brock with lyrics of Sheldon Harnick. It's based on a book by Joseph Stein and the musical is set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. The original musical opened on September 22, 1964 at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway. | Rajesh: For what, making me sound like a Simpsons character?
Rajesh is referring to the animated show The Simpsons, specifically Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. Apu is a fictional character voiced by Hank Azaria with the first appearance on the animated show being "The Telltale Head". Apu is the proprietor of the Kwik-E-Mart and he is a former artist and former barbershop singer. | Penny: Okay, here you go, Leonard. One Tequila Sunrise.
Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail that can be made in two separate ways; one being the original, consisting of tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice and soda water) and one being the more popular recipe, consisting of tequila, orange juice and grenadine syrup). The first time the drink was served was at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. | Penny: How about a Grasshopper?
Penny is referring to the cocktail known as a Grasshopper, which is a sweet, mint-flavored, "after-dinner" drink. The name refers to the drink's green color, provided by the crème de menthe. Some reports claim the drink originates from Tojague's, a landmark bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans in Louisiana. | Sheldon: I'll have a Diet Coke.
Diet Coke (also known as Diet Coca-Cola) is a sugar-free soft drink based on the original Coca-Cola (also known as Coke). It is produced and distributed by The Coca-Cola Company (just like the original) and was first introduced in America on Independence Day in 1982. | Sheldon: I'll have a virgin Cuba Libre.
Cuba Libre is a highball consisting of Coca-Cola, lime and rum. The lime juice is optional, and in the United States and Canada, this drink is referred to as a "Rum and Coke". According to Sheldon, Cuba Libre traditionally comes in a tall glass with a lime wedge. |
