Episode Quotes

Chloe: Okay, wait! I'm not some crash test dummy you can use to try out your dating skills. You. If you like Lana so much why don't you just ask her out and get it over with. And you. Stop acting like a Vegas bookie picks your dates. And both of you - treat me better.

Clark: Lana, you busy?
Lana: Completely swamped. That's why I'm sitting in a coffee shop attempting to wade through a Russian classic.

Clark: Lana. Why do you go out with him? Whitney, I mean.
Lana: Because whenever I need him, he's there. I guess he makes me feel safe.

Chloe: I'm swearing off men.
Clark: We're not all bad.
Pete: Maybe you should just swear off heat sucking horn dogs.

(Lex encourages Clark to ask Lana out.)
Clark: She's got a boyfriend, Lex.
Lex: A high school boyfriend isn't a husband. He's an obstacle.

Lana: You’ve been friends with Clark for a long time. Is he always so…
Pete: Clark-like?
(Lana nods.)
Pete: Sometimes he’s totally there and you think you know everything about him. And then there’s this part that’s…
Lana: Mysterious…
Pete: Yeah, that’s it… Clark Kent, international man of mystery.

Episode Goofs

In the final battle between Clark and Sean, Sean is in "frozen mode" but there is no blue makeup on the side of his neck in a couple of shots. It was concluded that the staff ran out of latex.

Help, I need somebody!
By the time Sean emerges from the frozen lake hours have passed, for it is now daylight and everyone has gone. Several boys knew he went to retrieve the football and at least one wondered where he was. Shouldn’t they have summoned help when he disappeared?

A frozen fire?
Several times, Sean draws the heat from a fire or other combustion point, and the flames are shown frozen solid. The gases burning in any combustion reaction are much to diffuse to freeze into a solid in this way. The real result would be a fine snow and the extinguishing of the flame.

Talk about your Indian Summer!
Early in the episode, Sean falls through a lake frozen solid to a depth of at least an inch. A few days later, when Clark tosses him into a lake on Lex’s property, that lake is not only not frozen solid, there is no ice floating in it.

Cultural References

Sean Kelvin's Last Name
Sean develops the ability to draw the heat from objects. It is likely that his name comes from the Kelvin, which is the base unit of temperature in the international system (SI) of units. The unit takes its name from the title of William Thomson (1824-1907), who was the first Baron Kelvin. Thomson received the title for, among other achievements, devising the Kelvin temperature scale.
