New recruit, Yorkshireman Tom Hebblethwaite, has his work cut out as he attempts to find his way around the city streets. London can be a particular challenge for police during the night. On an average night the police receives more than 4,000 emergency calls, keeping the on-duty response cops busy from dusk ‘til dawn. On the residential streets of North London a burglar has been caught in the act and PC Waz Din has to try and talk down the suspect down from a first floor window. On the busy streets of Soho, a criminal racket seems to be thriving and for the past couple of years Detective Superintendent Kevin Southworth has been gathering evidence on the thieves and drug dealers plaguing the area.
