Determined to become an active environmentalist, Kat enrolls in shop class to convert her gas-guzzling car into a biodiesel vehicle. As the only girl in the class, Kat realizes that she needs to do more than fix cars to break the stereotype that girls can do anything boys can do. Will she be able to show the guys up in class, including Patrick Verona?

Episode Quotes |

(Kat sees Patrick coming towards her)
Kat: Hey, what's going on?
Patrick: Just wrapping up another day in paradise.
Kat: Listen, about the other day, I just wanted to say...I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gone through your bag or stabbed you in the foot.
Kat: Ah, don't sweat it, but let's keep our distance, the doctor said it would heal faster if I reduce the amount of crazy in my life.
Kat: (looks shocked as Patrick walks off) Crazy? I'm not crazy. (another student stops and begins staring at her) Yes, I'm talking to myself it's a sign of genius. | Mandella: Why don't you just convert you're car into a biodiesel? My Cousin Jamie did it in a day. If he can you definitely can. He still wets the bed. | Bianca: Hey Chasity, hey Joey, you're hair looks great today
Joey and Chastity: (in unison) Thanks! | (Kat tells Walter she printed a manuel off the internet to convert her car to biodiesel)
Walter: I'm sure somewhere on the internet there's a manuel that shows you how to deliver a baby, but that doesn't mean you know you're way around a uteris.
Kat: Why can't my dad just be an accountant? | Mr. Reeble: Well there she is. The little lady who thinks she can convert a car, using a manuel she found on the internet. All because she believes in the hype about global warming.
Kat: I'm sorry, is this Auto shop or 1952?
Mr. Reeble: You're just like my wife, after watching some show on HGTV, she tried to rewire an antique lamp. Almost electrocuted herself.
Kat: Maybe it was a botched suicide attempt. | (Bianca spills juice on Joey and he takes his shirt off)
Joey: Don't worry, models gotta be naked a lot. It's good practice. | Chastity: (to Bianca) Listen, Joey has the attention span of a Cheerio, so keep him focused, OK? | Joey: (to Cameron) Man, I really admire you for busting stereotypes. I'm actually trying to do the same thing. I wanna show the world that straight guys can be models, in the same way that you're trying to show people that gay guys don't have to have six-pack abs. | Luis: (to Kat) You can cuddle with me, kitten. I like a woman who has no idea what's she doing.
Kat: I just need a crowbar, and when I find one you might wanna run.
Luis: And I'll run slow so you can catch me. | (Kat and Walter talking by the car)
Walter: You're also the most stubborn person I know. Remember your hunger strike...in third grade?
Kat: It worked. They put in a salad bar in. |

Cultural References |
| |
Kat: How can I call myself an environmentalist when I'm single handedly exterminating polar bears in my Chernobyl-mobile?
This is an indirect reference to the Chernobyl disaster. Which was a nuclear reactor accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union in 1986. | Mandella: (to Kat) I'm the Marcie to your Peppermint Patty.
Marcie and Peppermint Patty are Peanuts characters originally created by Charles M. Schultz. Best friends who are rarely ever apart. | Bianca: (to Cameron) ...maybe it's because you're so sweet and sensitive and you watch Project Runway.
Project Runway is a Fashion show that first appeared on Bravo, then later moved to Lifetime. Hosted by model Heidi Klum. | Cameron: Because of sexy Heidi Klum and the way she says weidershen.
Heidi Klum is a German model and host of Project Runway. She is married to singer Seal. | Kat: (to Cameron) Remind me to give you back your Dreamgirls DVD later.
Dreamgirls is a broadway musical that was recently turned into a highly successful movie musical starring Jennifer Hudson. | Michael: You're like Hugh Jackman before he was Wolverine.
Hugh Jackman is the star of the movie, X-men Origins: Wolverine. | Cameron: So this is really less like Hugh Jackman and more like Ryan Gosling in The Notebook.
The Notebook is a romantic drama released to rave reviews in 2005. It starred Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. | Michael: OK, new movie, Blackhawk Down...
Black Hawk Down is a 2001 American war film co-produced and directed by Ridley Scott and based on the book of the same title by Mark Bowden that depicts the Battle of Mogadishu, a raid integral to the United States' effort to capture Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. | Bianca: Look at David Beckham he's one of the biggest male models in the world...
Beckham is one of the most famous athletes in the world. Having played pro soccer in both Europe and the United States. Along with being a Model and celebrity. |

Analysis |

Kat tries and fails!
Interesting how Kat tried her best to convert her car to a biodiesel but in the end had to be rescued by her Dad who had to help her fix the car correctly. When originally the point of this was to be "pro-environment and pro-female" and proving she could do this without the help of a man. But that didn't happen. Though they did play up the fact that everyone needs help at one point or another.
I fail to see where the writer thought this was a good idea for the character. Wouldn't it have been better for the overall plot to have a girl at the garage step in and help Kat? Or how about Mandella? She came up with the idea to begin with. I seriously think this storyline missed the entire point they were trying to make. |
