In Belbridge, Massachusetts, the judge calls up Eddie Maranjian, a former hedge-fund manager on trial, and asks if he wants to apologize to his victims. He cheerfully declines and the judge gives him eighteen months in a minimum-security prison in return for assisting the Federal government. Eddie's victims mutter and one of them, Ronald, pulls out a gun. Nate stops Ronald, who goes over and punches Eddie. Outside, Alec and Nate explain to Ronald that they figure that Eddie still has the stolen money that disappeared before he was arrested. Ronald explains that his sister, a widow, was scammed by Eddie and died in a hospital.
In the courtroom, the team checks the prison where Eddie will be staying. They need to figure out how to get him to reveal where the cash is. As Nate considers a plan, he notices a bottle of hand sanitizer that Eddie left behind. He figures that Eddie is a germophobic.
The Federal marshals are waiting to take Eddie to his new prison. Immune from further prosecution, Eddie boasts of how he ripped off his clients. He's unaware that Parker is in the air vents above him. She makes rat noises to distract them and then dips a string into his water bottle and dribbles a drug down. Eddie immediately collapses and the marshals call in Nate, posing as a doctor. He claims Eddie was injured when Robert punched him and sends him to the hospital for a MRI. The team heads off to take over the hospital.
The team goes to the hospital and finds an empty floor used for storage. Parker sets up Eddie's room and prepares it for their scam. Alec sets up his computer systems in another room and starts testing pre-recorded sound effects, and then shows Nate how to use the system. They have two hours to run the con while Eddie is getting his MRI. Parker sprays some chemicals on a wheelchair and then goes to get Eddie. Meanwhile, Eliot and Alec dress as local police officers and Alec reviews the emergency codes. Eliot is distracted when he notices a father checking in his son, Randy. The father claims that Randy had a skateboarding accident and broke his arm but Eliot doesn’t believe it.
Parker takes Eddie into the MRI chamber and Nate points out the new rash that Eddie has due to the chemicals. Nate tells Parker to take Eddie to the eighth floor and Parker reacts in shock, but Nate says that he has nothing to worry about. Meanwhile, Alec and Eliot bring doughnuts for the two Federal marshals, Charlie and his partner Bob.
Parker drops Eddie off at the eighth floor room and handcuffs him to the bed. He's sharing a room with Sophie, and Nate is watching him on Alec's hidden cameras. He notes that the new drugs they gave Eddie aren't working, and explains to Parker that once they start suggesting symptoms, Eddie will think he has them.
As Sophie scratches at herself and makes small talk, Eddie turns on the TV and briefly sees a special report on the news before the TV cuts off. He notices Sophie has the same rash he has, and when she goes out Nate plays a brief bit of fake conversation outside in the hall about the CDC and Order 23.
Bob and Charlie are talking with Eliot and Alec when an orderly brings in a car accident patient for a MRI. They realize that someone substituted a dummy for Eddie and go to find him. As they start to panic, Eliot suggests that all their jobs are at risk and they keep it to themselves. Nate listens in and figures they have to put the plan into action now. He starts broadcasting panic special effects in the hallway and Sophie feigns an illness. Nate comes rushing in, closes the curtain, and starts administering treatment. Sophie soon “dies” and they wheel her out while refusing to tell Eddie anything.
While Bob and Charlie go over the security footage, Alec steals their keys and discovers they have separate car keys. When they can't find Eddie on the footage, Alec suggests that he is hiding in the hospital. Alec calls in Eliot, who notices Randy again getting his broken arm splinted.
Eddie calls out for help and his nose starts bleeding on its own thanks to his psychosomatic fear. Meanwhile, Alec goes to find out why Bob and Charlie took separate cars. He searches Bob's car and tells Eliot to meet with the agents. Eliot is busy watching Randy and comes over to talk to his father, Randall. He chats with him privately and demands answers. When Randall sticks to the skateboarding story, Eliot starts to toss him down a stairwell. He stops and takes his ID, warning him that he'll be keeping an eye on the house. Randall insists he's just providing for his family and tells Eliot to leave him alone.
A security guard comes to investigate the 8th floor and Nate sends Sophie to intercept him. She puts on a hazmat suit, claims he's contaminated, and directs him to a shower.
Alec checks out Charlie's car and discovers it’s a rental. He realizes that Charlie is a hitman working for the Armenian mob, and the mob wants Eddie dead because he sold them out. Meanwhile, Charlie calls the police department to check Alec and Eliot's credentials and realizes they’re fakes. When Eliot joins him in the morgue, Charlie prepares to kill him. Eliot can't get hold of him on the radio and gets on the intercom to give a Star Trek code sign. Eliot realizes something is up and ducks behind a drawer, avoiding Charlie’s shot. He then disarms him and takes him out
As Eddie continues to panic, Nate visits and tells him that Sophie wasn't fine and explains that the Soviets had a program to weaponize a virus. Nate displays the same rash and then collapses. Parker runs in and tends to him.
Eliot dumps Charlie in a morgue drawer and tells Alec he's taken care of the fake marshal. Bob is in the stairwell and Alec realizes he's heading for the 8th floor.
Parker handcuffs Nate to the bed next to Eddie and starts to run out, saying she's under Order 23 protocols. He offers Parker $400,000 to let him go and she agrees, disobeying Nate's orders. As they leave, they go past the shower room where the security guard is scrubbing down, and Eddie knocks him out and takes his taser.
Bob finds Eddie's tie in the abandoned room and puts out an APB. Eliot and Alec are in the ER when the police arrive outside. As Alec heads out, Eliot goes to see Randy in private and suggests he tell one of the cops what really happened to his arm. Randy admits that his dad knows the cops and he's afraid to tell them anything. Alec returns to tell Eliot they have to go and Eliot has no choice but to leave.
Parker takes Eddie through the basement and points out the exit. Eddie stuns her with the taser and runs outside. He finds an unlocked car and drives to the courthouse, then takes the hidden money out of an air vent in a utility closet. When he walks out, Parker is waiting for him and knocks him down. She knew Eddie had the taser and wore a protective device. The rest of the team arrives and Nate figures that Eddie picked the perfect place to hide money. Eddie laughs, noting all the crimes they committed and warning that he can identify them all. He runs out into the street and hails a police car. The police aren't interested in what happened and explain that he assaulted an officer and escaped custody. The team has the footage of Eddie stunning Parker and the security guard can identify him. As Eddie is taken away, Nate explains the criminal law and how he set Eddie up to panic.
Later, Eliot and Alec take Bob back to the morgue, explain that Charlie was an imposter, and then inform Bob that the police have captured Eddie. They open the door and produce Charlie, and Eliot quickly knocks him out again before he can explain that Eliot and Alec are fakes. Eliot says he'll report that Bob saved the day by figuring out Charlie was a hitman. When Bob asks what he can do in return for the favor, Eliot gives him Randy's address. Later, Bob goes to the Trask home and gets him to say what his father did. A satisfied Eliot secretly watches from across the street.
