» Bobbo is going to Amsterdam on August 19th...
Hello fellow Ragers. I've known for the last couple of months now, but didn't want to post anything until it was set in stone. I'm going to Amsterdam with a good buddy of mine from August 19th to the 26th. You all know what I'm mainly going for, so no need to write a paragraph explaining that. I figured since I'm 19 now, this is the last year I'll be considered a "teen", and by the time I turn twenty in January, it'll really be time for me to get my crap together, so this will be the best time to go. Since I live pretty much right next door to Canada, technically this isn't my first time out of the ol' good US of A, but this will certainly be the first place I go to that has such a big cultural difference. This will also be my first plane ride somewhere in 12 years.

Anyways, any advice? Have any of you ever been there? I'm probably going to freak the f*** out on the plane ride there. Lay it on me.

Amsterdam is my most favorite city I've ever been to, and I don't even smoke or anything. It was just fascinating. The culture there is so laid back and welcoming... weather is mild, nearly everyone speaks English, the architecture is charming, and of course... the Red Light district is not to be missed. Yowza! Look for the cobblestone walkways near old church with the bronze boobs sticking out of the ground, complete with hands groping them. And the rest of the stuff there you'll find with no problem.

Also, go to the Van Gogh museum! It kicks ass.
I took a boat tour of the canals which was pretty amazing.
And... you can buy beer in vending machines.

Our hotel that we're staying at is literally about 30 feet from the Red Light District, and we're right by a McDonalds. I'm more nervous about the plane ride than anything. Haha. But thanks Cindy. My paranoia led me to believe that we were bound to get mugged until your reassuring words, even though everybody told me I was crazy to think that in the first place. Lol. Look forward to the pictures.

You will not get mugged in Amsterdam. I saw little old ladies walking by themselves through the Red Light district without fear. It's really more of a tourist spot than anything, even though it's authentic. It is incredibly safe there, even at night.

BTW - photos are not allowed in the RL district. I actually saw a cop tackle a guy to take his camera away.

Too lazy to upload my amsterdam pix now... maybe later.

Nice, well at least goto the sex museum on Damrak, you will not believe some of those things. Then there's the dungeon museum on Rokin, gotta see it.
Of course RL, but it isn't that great anymore, this will probably be the last year it's interesting, so you're right in time.
