| » Futurama + Spreadsheet = A nerdy good time! |
Don't scurry away because you're frightened by the length of this blog, you timid little Ragers. Most of the information is repetitive, and its intimidating length is merely a facade for a bunch of useless information.

Introduction
I'm a huge fan of Futurama. I'm pretty subtle about it, so you're all probably surprised to hear that it's by far my favorite television show to ever exist. It's absolutely hilarious and clever, as well as beautiful to look at. Yeah, it's a lot like me. Anyway, because I'm a dork, I decided to rate each episode on a scale of 1 to 5 and present this information to all of you. Read on, and I wish you Godspeed.
Quick Jump
Rating Scale
Season One
Season Two
Season Three
Season Four
Overall
RATING SCALE ►►
5.0-5.0 - Brilliant, superb story and jokes, well-executed, one of my all-time favorites
4.0-4.9 - Great, really brings the funny, nearly perfect
3.0-3.9 - Average Futurama, which is still above average in terms of every other TV show in existence
2.0-2.9 - Mediocre, missing something, not bad overall
1.0-1.9 - Bad, mostly a bore-fest
When rating each episode, I tried to be critical and remain as objective as possible. That's kind of hard to do when rating something you love. Also, there's probably something mathematically incorrect since all of my categories don't have the same ranges, but I just think it's silly to have a range for perfection. This is my project and I'll create it however I wish. Math be damned! Hmph. *crosses arms*
SEASON ONE ►►
Ah, this is where it all began. You could tell from the start that this show would be different. That's the good kind of "different", not the "different" used to describe an ugly child.

Well, here's another mathematical "error" I suppose. Technically, this should probably be a histogram, seeing as how I have a frequency table and am comparing intervals of quantitative values. However, MW Spreadsheet doesn't have that as an option, so I had to go with a bar chart. I'm limited here, people!

Analysis/Opinion
I know, I know; this is really boring. Really, though, I don't care what you think. First of all, let's discuss our pseudo-histogram. Season one seems to form a decent nice bell curve; it's not too spectacular though. It's not skewed extremely, so a thumbs up for season one. Now we have the line graph. The only obvious trend is the gradual increase during the middle of the season, starting with episode 104. But hey, at least it started and ended on a high note.
Season one's average (3.70) is slightly higher than the average of all four seasons (3.66), which may or may not mean something significant; I'll let you decide. It doesn't contain any of my absolute favorite episodes of the entire series, but it gets my seal of approval. I think it's also important to note that television series usually have pretty crappy pilots, which is clearly not the case for Futurama.
Well, it ain't gonna get any more interesting, folks. You might as well skip out now. Or might I suggest suicide maybe? (Please note that I am not responsible for anyone's suicide attempts or successes.)
SEASON TWO ►►
Second season and still going strong...strong like bull. We must catch moose and squirrel. In Soviet Russia, Futurama watches you! What's this blog about again?

217 - War Is The H-Word (3.8 )
218 - The Honking (2.5)
219 - The Cryonic Woman (2.0)
Analysis/Opinion
As in season one, season two's "histogram" shows a fairly normal distribution. It's nothing to get too excited about though. Calm yourself. And wipe that spit off your chin, you bum. The line graph shows an interesting trend happening at the end of the season. After two perfect episodes, it consistently decreases. What a shame, season two.
Season two's average (3.59) is only a little lower than the overall average (3.66). I don't really know what else to say. This is my least favorite season, so I'm not very attached to it. *stabs it in the face*

Analysis/Opinion
Finally, we have a nearly-symmetrical graph happening. Season three is pretty well-rounded. It's nothing that a statistician would drool over, but it's nice overall. The line graph is all over the place; it looks more like an EKG reading. Doctor, this patient is alive. There's a nice little increase happening near the end, starting with episode 316. It recovers quite well, going from bad to perfect before dropping off a little at the very end.
Season three's average (3.46) is the lowest of them all (mirror, mirror on the wall). However, this is nearly perfectly in the middle. Season three has some of my least favorite episodes ("That's Lobstertainment!" should not exist), but also some of my favorites (pretty much all that fell in the 4.0-5.0 range). You're a fine young man, season three. Your parents are surely proud...unless of course they're alcoholics, in which case they've already spent all your college tuition money on booze. Better contact Sallie Mae.
SEASON FOUR ►►
In its fourth season, Futurama suffered a horrible fate. It was on its way home from what was supposed to be a terrific time out with friends. But what happened was pretty much not terrific. Yes, Futurama was struck by a drunk driver. Please drink responsibly; don't drink and drive.

Analysis/Opinion
Season four's bar graph is a visual disgrace.*vomits* And the line graph? Not trendy at all. Its clothes are so out of style. Totally. *flips hair* Anyway, it's interesting to note, I suppose, how there is an abundance of "perfect" episodes. The drop between episode 410 and 411 stands out a bit. How unfortunate that after two superb episodes and right before yet another perfect episode, "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" had to come along and ruin something great. Resisting... urge... to alter data.
Season four's average (3.95) is higher than the overall average (3.66), which isn't surprising at all. All those 5.0s definitely bumped up its average. One little note I must make is in regards to episode 411, previously mentioned in the above paragraph. I personally didn't love the episode, but that's probably because it centered around Star Trek, a show that I've never really watched. Pretty much all top favorite episodes, though, happened in season four, especially the series finale.

Analysis/Opinion
You know the drill. First let's discuss that lovely little bar graph. It's...nice. I wouldn't, like, have sex with it or anything, but I'd probably give a good back rub. I might go further with it if it can pay the right price. My love ain't cheap. I guess it's good that there were a lot more episodes I deemed perfect as opposed to horrible. Now, the line graph would have been a waste of time. And we all know that I don't like wasting time. *continues to ramble*
Ranking each season on its average from greatest to least, we have:
spacespacespaceSeason Four > Season One > Season Two > Season Three
However, my personal tastes are quite different:
spacespacespaceSeason Four > Season Three >> Season One >> Season Two
Sure season three had a few bad eggs, but it definitely had some top-notch episodes. Anyway, it's quite easy to see why Futurama was so unbelievably awesome. Graphs don't lie, people. Trust the data.
Final Word
That's all I got. And hurray, now that Futurama is returning, I'll get to do the new season(s!) also! I'll warn you now that the titles will be disguised with seemingly-delightful phrases, such as "Delicious Treats" and "The Winning Lotto Numbers." You won't be able to refrain from clicking. Then, once inside, you'll be trapped! TRAPPED, I SAY!
P.S. Please won't you be...my neighbor? I'll let you watch me put on my shoes and fancy cardigan sweaters. I promise. |

Decent Kelly-style blog. It's only outshined by your infamous Christmas blog.
I loved the graphs, loved them. Nice use of anchors as well. You make the HTML Gods happy.
Now, because I command it, you will make a similar blog for South Park. *snap snap* |

| Ashley! I haven't seen you around in a while. I will gladly be your Blog Queen. Thanks for the comments, everyone! If I spent as much time on more important things as I do on my blogs, I probably wouldn't be such a worthless bum. Oh well, such is life. |
