Julie Bowen Luetkemeyer was born on March 3, 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is the second child of Jack and Susie Luetkemeyer. She has one older sister and one younger sister. Bowen attended Roland Park Country School in Baltimore, Maryland, and was accepted to Brown University where she graduated with a degree in Italian Renaissance studies. She also spent a year studying in Florence, Italy.
Bowen moved to Los Angeles in 1994, and eventually got the public’s notice when she portrayed Adam Sandler's love interest in the comedy film, Happy Gilmore (1996). She drew public interest again as the character, Carol Vessey, on the NBC hit show, Ed in 2000. More recently, she has had guest spots on the drama LOST, and stars as lawyer Denise Bauer on the ABC show, Boston Legal.
Bowen married Scott Phillips in September of 2004. They are expecting their first child, due April 2007.
