Kevin Smith was born in Auckland, New Zealand. When he was 11 his family moved to Timaru, a small town on the south part of New Zealand. While in high school he began to play in a rock band and had never thought about being an actor. He also played rugby and aspired to play for a major team. When he was 20 he went to Canterbury University. Later in life he married his childhood sweetheart Sue, who convinced him to go to an audition after suffering a concussion playing rugby, and got him into acting. His first role was as JoJoe, a bodyguard, in a tribute to Elvis. Soon Kevin joined the Christchurch's Court Theater where he performed for 3 years. After finishing his work with the Hercules and Xena universe he went back to acting in theater and joined the alternative rock band The Wide Lapels.
Kevin unfortunatly died in Beijing while working on the movie Warriors of Virtue. He died just before what could have been his break into hollywood, playing a role alongside Bruce Willis in the movie Tears of the Sun.
