Barney Fife is Mayberry's Deputy Sheriff and wants to do his job by the book - an approach which often brings him into conflict with Sheriff Taylor and the people of Mayberry. Barney can make abrupt decisions that he sometimes regrets. In one episode, he suspects a rookie lawman wants his job and quits his deputy position to become a vacuum cleaner salesman. Barney has several girlfriends: Miss Rosemary, Hilda May, and Bluebird Diner waitress Juanita. Barney's steady girlfriend however is Thelma Lou. They often double date with Andy and Helen. Barney left Mayberry in the fifth season to take a job in Raleigh. He returned over the last few seasons to make five guest appearances. |

played Ralph Furley [Season 4-8] in Three's Company
Mr. Ralph Furley stepped in as the apartment's landlord suddenly, making a huge impact on the gang.
While the Roper's were lovable in their own right, Mr. Furley had a way to get the laughs. With his flashy leisure suits and bland sense of humor, Mr. Furley is unable to attract any type of girl. Despite this, he feels he is a ladies man.
Starting out "tough" at first, Mr. Furley loosened in his ways when Chrissy moved out and Cindy took the part of the blonde roommate. Mr. Furley had a closer relationship with the "kids" by this point, and began to love them.
Through many trials of unsuccessful dates, fights with the trio and Larry, attempts to get Lana in the sack, and battles with his brother, Mr. Furley always stuck through with the trio, never turning his back on them. |
