Being the father of Neptune's rising PI star isn't always easy---just ask Keith Mars, who is forever cautioning his daughter Veronica about sticking her neck out there once too often.
Keith was once the Sheriff of Neptune, but was hastily ousted when his investigation into the death of Lilly Kane was pointing fingers at some very influential people (namely, Jake Kane). In short order, his wife left him, he lost his house and social standing and he went to work as a private investigator in order to keep both he and Veronica under a roof with three square.
Veronica learns much of what she knows about the business from Keith, who's very good at his job. She also has Keith's way with people and his compassion for others.
