Morena Baccarin was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 1st, 1979. She is the daughter of a Brazilian stage actress named Vera Setta. Around the age of 10, her family moved to New York City, where she attended the LaGuardia High School of Music and Performing Arts and the Juilliard School. There she starred in a number of plays. Before to moving to Los Angeles, she landed a small role in the independent film
Roger Dodger. The experience of working on a film with actors such as Campbell Scott and Isabella Rossellini prompted her to head to L.A.. There, she came to the attention of Joss Whedon, who cast her in
Firefly as Inara Serra. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after only 11 episodes but Morena was able to reprise the role of Inara in the film version called
Serenity. She will next be seen in some episodes of
The O.C. in 2006.
