Amy Jo Johnson grew up in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA. As a child she competed as a gymnast, learning skills that would later be of great use to her in her breakthrough role on
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers playing the role of the Pink Ranger, Kimberly Hart. She gave up competing when she was 17, and concentrated more on her acting interests, appearing in various community theater projects. Once she graduated from high school she went to New York to study at the American Musical Dramatic Academy. After two years there she moved to California where she landed the aforementioned part of Kimberly Hart, the Pink Power Ranger.
Power Rangers was a huge hit and it earned her fame. As many of the cast members came and went through the span of the three seasons that the show lasted, she stayed on for nearly the entire run. Half way through the third season she left the show to pursue other projects. She went back into theater and landed a few television movie roles. Amy is also the lead singer and guitarist in her band, Valhalla. Her own talents as a musician have came into play when she landed the role of Julie Emrick on the critically acclaimed WB series
Felicity. After she left that series she landed a few more small roles and television movies bofore landing the role of Stacey Edwards on
The Division. Most recently she had a recurring guest spot as Tina Sharp on the ABC Family series
Wildfire.
