Lauren Graham, a Hawaii native, was born March 16, 1967. When she was five, her parents divorced; her mother left for London, while her father, Lawrence, moved to Washington, D.C. with Lauren. Growing up, Lauren participated in community theaters, the Drill Team, which combined dance and cheerleading, as well as several stage productions. After attending Barnard College in New York City where she earned a Bachelor's degree in English, Lauren received a Master's degree in Acting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Shortly after, Lauren moved to California to pursue the acting career she had dreamed about her entire life.
Lauren's first break came in 1995 when she landed a guest role on
Caroline in the City. From there, she went on to guest star on several popular television shows including
3rd Rock from the Sun,
Seinfeld, and
NewsRadio. Lauren's first starring role came in 1996 when she was cast as Denise in the short-lived series
Townies. She was cast in several other short-lived series, including
Good Company,
Conrad Bloom, and
M.Y.O.B., before being cast as Lorelai Gilmore in the successful WB (later CW) series
Gilmore Girls. For her role on
Gilmore Girls, Lauren has been nominated for several awards and has received critical acclaim for her portrayal of the independent, single mother.
In addition to her television career, Lauren has acted in several movies including
Bad Santa,
Lucky 13,
The Pacifier, and is set to appear in
Evan Almighty in 2007.
Currently, Lauren resides in West Hollywood.
