David Marciano was born 7th January, and raised in Newark, New Jersey. He says his early life was full of bluster and drugs, and by the age of 17 he was in with a bad crowd of hoodlums. His choice was simple: clean up his act or he was unlikely to reach 40. He chose to clean up his act, and now says that his early experiences have been useful research for his acting roles. Later, he attended Northeastern University in Boston where he began studying Biomedical Engineering. He soon realised that a career in Science was not for him, and in 1983 he began acting in Boston, attending bartender school and working as a bartender. In 1984 he got a place at the Drama Studio of London at Berkeley: by '85 he had relocated to Los Angeles. He worked on some commercials and was a guest star on "Wiseguy" (1987). He then landed the role of bike messanger and poet in "Civil Wars" (1991), as well as guest appearances in series such as "Duet" (1987), "China Beach" (1988) and "Vietnam War Story" (1987). Other film roles came his way.
Strangely, David turned down the part of Ray Vecchio in "Due South" (1994) three times before finally agreeing, saying "it just didn't click for me". In the first series, Ray's character sometimes had to play third fiddle to Fraser and Diefenbaker. He did get two Gemini nominations for his troubles, however! He thought long and hard before commiting himself to the second season, and returned on the condition that this time, the two leads would be of equal weight. Many fans agree that the show would not be the same without Ray's caustic sarcasm to balance Fraser's sometimes irritating goodness. Chalk and cheese, these two actors, (and characters), but together they add up to something greater than the sum of the parts. David is a romantic at heart - he proposed to his wife, actress Katayoun Amini, on Valentine's Day 1991, and claims his favourite film is Sleepless in Seattle (1993), because "some things are meant to be". Filming in Toronto means that they have relocated to the city whilst the show is in production. He is delighted to have his wife and 18-month-old daughter Ariana Grace with him in Canada. His trailer on the set is littered with photographs of his family, and he can't wait for the day's filming to finish so that he can rush home. A far cry from the 17-year-old tearaway, but then maturity suits him.
