Steven Jay Blum might not be a common name heard in Hollywood, but it is in the gaming, anime and voiceover community. Blum is an auditory icon, and some might even call him the “King of Anime.” For years, he’s been using his distinctive deep voice to bring all types of characters to life. So far, he’s voiced hundreds of characters - that number can go only up from here. He’s best known for providing Spike Spiegel’s voice in “Cowboy Bebop,” Logan/Wolverine’s voice in several X-Men projects, the Green Goblin’s voice in “The Spectacular Spider-Man,” additional voices in Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch,” among many, many others. Some of his new voice roles include the Decepticon Starscream in “Transformers: Prime,” Heatwave in “Transformers: Rescue Bots!” and the villain Amon in “Avatar: The Legend of Korra.” Blum is also popular for his role as TOM aka the robotic host of Cartoon Network’s “Toonami” featured on Adult Swim. If that’s enough, he’s also been known to set records. On May 10, 2012, Guinness World Records recognized him as the “most prolific video game actor” across the globe. At that time, he was credited with 261 appearances. Blum is truly a role model - not only for fans of his work - but also for those looking to enter the same profession. He truly enjoy his work, and doesn’t regret his industry or his career. As he told Paste Magazine, “I suppose the biggest thing I learned is that I’m in it for the right reasons. I love my job as much now as when I first began. I still feel fully invested in every audition, every job—large or small, every appearance, every meeting with every fan. I still get excited to be in a room with people I’ve known for years, watching the alchemy of personalities and incredible talent, create something out of nothing.”
