played Spike [S05] in Angel

Spike, played by James Marsters, had little to do with the series other than Angel's flashbacks until season five. Spike appeared first in season one with the episode "In the Dark." Spike's only reason for coming to Los Angeles was to retrieve what Oz brought to Angel. With that prize being destroyed, Spike left the series to return back to Sunnydale.

Aside from flashbacks, Spike returns to the series in season five. He comes back against his will as a visible ghost. Spike is bound to Wolfram & Hart through the amulet he wore at his destruction in Sunnydale. Spike, not fond of Angel, wants to leave the city all together. After a while, Spike decides to hang around the town when he is made corporeal again. Spike sees the potential good he can do in Los Angeles. Spike is befriended by long time Angel enemy Lindsey, who poses as Doyle, to put Spike on a "right track for redemption." The premise becomes who is the champion the Shanshu Prophecy speaks of. Spike stands by the team until the series finale where he, Angel, Gunn, and Illyria prepare for their final battle.

played Spike [Season 2-7] in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Spike is a vampire, who at first came to town with Drusilla in the hope of reaping destruction and doing other fiendish vampire things. He was continually thwarted by Buffy, eventually losing his ability to walk in an accident. In series 4 he was captured by the Initiative and had a chip implanted in his head, which prevented him from causing physical harm to any living thing, basically rendering him harmless, from then on he reluctantly helps the Scoobies, as demons are the only things he can hurt. In series 5 Spike realises that he has fallen in love with Buffy and in series 6 they become lovers, after Buffy is in need of comfort. However when Buffy breaks up with him, he heads off to Africa, where he seeks the help of a shaman to remove the chip from his head, however the shaman instead returns his soul. In series 7 Spike returns to Sunnydale, and is found living in the school basement, apparently insane, he eventually reforms, and in the final battle plays a crucial role: he wears a mystical amulet which channels pure sunlight, killing all the Turok-Hans, destroying Sunnydale and ultimately destroying him. However in series 5 of Angel he is brought back by the amulet and helps Angel in LA.
