John Wayne was born as Marion Robert Morrison in Winterset, Iowa on May 26, 1907. John was a very popular actor. He started his career in the 1920's. His movies were of various genres, but mainly Western movies.

John's family was Presbyterian, his father being Scottish and Irish. He moved to Glendale, California in 1911, and there his nickname "Big Duke" started. While there, John played football at Glendale High School and was recruited by the University of Southern California.

After many years of acting, John Wayne died of stomach and lung cancer on June 11, 1979 in Los Angeles, California.
