Primetime Ratings, Tuesday, 4/15/14

NBC and CBS once again split the Tuesday victory.

'The Voice' climbed up a single tenth to a 3.0 to begin the Peacock's night. Conversely, 'About a Boy' rebounded after last week's small drop, rising one tenth to a 1.8. 'Growing Up Fisher' matched last week's 1.5, and is still in no real danger from the ax. Unfortunately, 'Chicago Fire' ended things on a down note, setting a new season low of 1.7.

While the Eye did draw in the most total viewers, it was a night of 18-49 demo drops for CBS. 'NCIS' plunged four tenths to a 2.2. 'NCIS: LA' dipped two tenths to a 2.1, matching its previous series low. 'Person of Interest' dropped a tenth to a 1.8 to end things.

The predicted post-'Winter Soldier' ratings bump has still largely failed to materialize for 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' which rose only two tenths to a 2.1, after having just shed one tenth last week. The season premiere of 'Celebrity Wife Swap' disappointed, earning a mere 1.0. To put that number in perspective, last summer's premiere earned a 1.3, while last winter's premiere earned a whopping 2.4. Tuesdays at 10 p.m. continues to be this season's death slot for ABC.

FOX's 'Glee' seems to have hit a ratings floor, matching last week's 1.0. 'New Girl' returned in dubious fashion, matching its previous series low of 1.2. 'The Mindy Project' dropped a tenth to a 1.0. On The CW, 'The Originals' matched its previous series low of 0.7. 'Supernatural' followed that up by falling three tenths to a 0.7 of its own, setting a new season low in the process.

PRIMETIME PROGNOSTICATION

The five main factors I consider when making a prediction are thus:

3. How long has the show been on the air? (Veteran series are always more likely to get renewed.)

4. Does the show have any high-profile leads? (Never discount star power.)

5. How much does the show cost to make? (Approximately, exact TV budgets are hard to come by.)
