Primetime Ratings, Sunday, 4/6/14

CBS won Sunday night in all measures.

Without March Madness games leading off this week, '60 Minutes' plunged down a point and a half to a 1.3. The 2014 'Academy of Country Music Awards' earned a 3.3, down a full point from last year's 4.3. 'America's Funniest Home Videos' started ABC's night by rising a tenth to a 1.4.

'Once Upon a Time' shot up three tenths to a 2.4. 'Resurrection' dipped two more tenths to a 2.2, and while I think a renewal is still far more likely than not, I'm starting to have doubts. 'Revenge' stayed mostly consistent, dipping a tenth to a 1.3.

'Bob's Burgers' fell to a 0.9 to kick off FOX's animation block. 'American Dad' decreased two tenths to a 1.2. 'The Simpsons' matched the 1.9 it's drawn for the last two weeks. The only FOX program to rise was 'Family Guy,' which bumped up two tenths to a 2.3. 'Cosmos' matched last week's 1.5.

An Ann Curry hosted NBC News special drew a paltry 0.6 for the Peacock, coming in dead last at 7 p.m. 'American Dream Builders' dropped again in week three, posting a 0.7. 'Believe' and 'Crisis' continue to go down in flames side by side, falling to matching 1.0s. Then again, a 1.0 looks almost impressive when compared to the rest of NBC's Sunday line-up.

PRIMETIME PROGNOSTICATION

The five main factors I consider when making a prediction are thus:

1. Does the show win its timeslot, and how often? (CW shows are exempt from this criteria.)

2. How do the show's ratings compare to similar programs on the same network? (Self explanatory.)

3. How long has the show been on the air? (Veteran series are always more likely to get renewed.)

4. Does the show have any high-profile leads? (Never discount star power.)

5. How much does the show cost to make? (Approximately, exact TV budgets are hard to come by.)

I really hope Crisis and Believe don't get cancelled. They're really great shows with amazing stories and solid acting. I watch them religiously. If they were on another network, they'd be superstars. It's too bad big networks don't give many of their shows a real chance and base everything on some sampling for the population. Either shows make their ridiculous expectations on the first 3 outings, or they get the ax. Seriously, put more faith in your programs and fire those stupid executives!

Why is Revenge on so late in the US? It can't really be considered to have any sex or violence and some episodes feel like a daytime soap.
