Primetime Ratings, Tuesday, 4/1/14

 

 

CBS once again won Tuesday in all measures.

'NCIS' dropped a tenth to a 2.4 to start things off. 'NCIS: LA' matched last week's 2.4, in one of the rare instances where 'LA' has come close to overtaking its progenitor. 'Person of Interest' held up well after last week's big three tenths jump, dipping only a single tenth to a 1.9.

Over on the Peacock, 'The Voice' plummeted three tenths to a 3.0, although it still soundly crushed the competition in the 18-49 demo. 'About a Boy' and 'Growing Up Fisher' continue to prove their staying power, and look more and more certain to receive second seasons. The former comedy matched last week's 2.0, while the latter dropped a smidge to a 1.6. It cannot be overstated just how much better these two shows do than every other comedy NBC airs.

'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' returned down (if only slightly) after a few weeks off, dropping one tenth to a 2.0. It'll likely get a "post-Winter Soldier" bump next week though. Lead-out 'The Goldbergs' also dipped a bit, decreasing two tenths to a 1.5. 'Trophy Wife' came in even with the 1.0 its last new episode earned, and seems to be attempting to squeak out a late renewal like 'The Neighbors' did last year. Sadly, I doubt that happens.

FOX was a distant last among the four major networks, even coming in behind the Spanish-language network Univision. 'Glee' fell two tenths to a 0.9, matching its prior series low. Inexplicably renewed sitcom 'The Mindy Project' made a not-so-triumphant midseason return, with both of its new outings earning matching 1.0s. That's down half a point from the 1.5 its last original earned back in January, and represents an all-time low for the comedy.

PRIMETIME PROGNOSTICATION

2. How do the show's ratings compare to similar programs on the same network? (Self explanatory.)

3. How long has the show been on the air? (Veteran series are always more likely to get renewed.)

4. Does the show have any high-profile leads? (Never discount star power.)

5. How much does the show cost to make? (Approximately, exact TV budgets are hard to come by.)
