After playing Lt. Catherine "Cat" Rollins (military badass turned on-again, off-again main squeeze to Steve McGarrett) for the better part of four seasons, Michelle Borth will soon ride off into 'Hawaii Five-0's ever present sunset, leaving the CBS action/adventure behind.
According to TVLine, Borth's final appearance as Catherine will happen late in '5-0's currently airing fourth season, with the second to last episode in particular focusing on the character, her past, and evolving romantic relationship with McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin).
The obvious question here is just what this means for the final fate of Catherine. Will she be killed off, in order to end season four on an emotional note? Will she be reassigned somewhere else, or called back into active Navy duty for some reason? Or will she simply part ways with McGarrett for the final time, and leave of her own volition? It really has to be one of those three outcomes, as it would make no sense for her to still be in Hawaii and just stop associating with the '5-0' team.
Borth began her '5-0' tenure as an occasional recurring player, appearing in only five episodes during the show's first two seasons, before becoming a series regular in season three. While fans of Catherine will be sad to see her go, 'Hawaii Five-0' itself will likely not sweat her loss much overall. Borth is but one member of a large ensemble, and nothing short of McGarrett or Danno exiting stage left is likely to hurt the show, which quite often wins its timeslot.
'Hawaii Five-0's remaining Season 4 episodes air Fridays at 9/8c on CBS. A full 22-episode fifth season has already been ordered.
Actually, it would be good to see her move on to something that makes better use of her talents - Five0 never really has.
