NBC won again won the night via the Winter Olympics.
After Sunday night's coverage finally managed to top the corresponding night in 2010, it seemed like things might be looking up for NBC's coverage of the Games. Unfortunately, Monday night's increased competition prevented that from happening. Night four of competition (night five of overall coverage) earned a 6.5 demo and brought in over 22 million viewers, but that's still down seven tenths from the same night in Vancouver four years ago.
In non-Olympics programming, 'The Bachelor' fell three tenths to a 2.3, which really isn't a terrible drop when going head-to-head with the biggest international sporting event of 2014. 'Almost Human' also dipped by three tenths, setting a new series low of 1.6. Up against the Olympics or not, I stand by my assessment from last week. This show is not getting a second season.
Not doing much better was FOX's 2013 hit 'The Following,' which has absolutely floundered since it returned to its normal Monday timeslot. The serial killer thriller dropped for the third straight week, setting a new series low of 1.7. If its rating decreases again next Monday, 'The Following' will be joining 'Almost Human' in the "cancellation predicted" file.
On CBS, 'Intelligence' fell back down to a 1.3, and remains a goner. Back the drawing board, Sawyer. Finally, 'Hart of Dixie' and 'Beauty and the Beast' both hit series lows for The CW. That said, they were already posting 0.4s every week, so they really didn't have far to fall.
