Ever since it was announced that ‘Pretty Little Liars’ would be earning a spin-off titled ‘Ravenswood,’ I haven’t been able to contain my excitement. I just screened the pilot, and let me tell you it was well worth the wait. Also, I’m kind of glad I didn’t watch it at night by myself (though that definitely would have added to its creepy supernatural goodness).
The show revolves around Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn) and Miranda Collins (Nicole Gale Anderson) who explore Ravenswood, after experiencing an unnerving event in the town’s cemetery. Along the way, the newly kindred spirit duo meet some inhospitable residents, along with the show’s other main characters, including Remy Beaumont (Britne Oldford) and twins Luke (Brett Dier) and Olivia Matheson (Meritt Patterson). The five teens are connected in more ways than one, and they have no idea what’s ahead -- like an interesting curse.
As sad as I am to see Caleb leave Rosewood -- and Hanna (Ashley Benson) behind -- for the spooky town of Ravenswood, I can’t help but praise a show partially built around Caleb’s past. Who doesn’t want more Caleb in their lives? Here are a few more spoilery tidbits to hold you over, until ‘Ravenswood’ premieres next week. Enjoy!
-Not only does Miranda’s fashion sense remind me of Aria, but so does her spunk. You go girl!
-Caleb and Miranda have a unique, and instant, bond.
-More creepy dolls pop up -- they must have been shipped from Rosewood.
-The pilot includes a funeral home, a cemetery and a newspaper morgue.
-If you thought Mrs. Grunwald could make your skin crawl, keep an eye out for Miranda’s creepy funeral director uncle, Raymond Collins.
-As Remy describes Ravenswood, the town has a “different kind of ordinary." I have to agree.
-Like Rosewood, Ravenswood is hot guy central. In addition to Caleb and Luke, we also have teacher Benjamin Price, played by Justin Bruening. Oh, and young Dean Winchester (Brock Kelly) from ‘Supernatural’ also shows up.
-As nice as it is to see Caleb in the bathtub, let’s just say this time it’s not as hot and steamy like when he and Hanna “shared” a shower.
-The following line is uttered at some point, “Your wind had hands, my shower curtain had shoulders.” Yikes!
-The homecoming queen moment was clearly inspired by Sarah Michelle Gellar in “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” along with the horror flick “Carrie.”
You can catch the ‘Ravenswood’ premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 9/8c on ABC Family, after the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Halloween special. The following week, ‘Ravenswood’ moves to its regular timeslot on Tuesdays at 8/7c.
I'm wathching this one and I'm hooked :)
