"Seeing is disbelieving." So says J.B. Benn's official website, the home on the web of one of the world's most prominent prestidigitators. Just how prominent is he? Well FOX has ordered a one-time special entitled 'Unreal,' chronicling Benn's impressive feats of illusion.
Benn is a close-up magician, which is the far more difficult and skill-intensive style of magic. Where as world-famous stage magicians such as David Copperfield and others make entire vehicles disappear through smoke and mirrors, close-up magicians such as Benn perform in a more intimate setting, using the age-old arts of misdirection and sleight of hand in order to fool spectators a mere foot in front of their faces. Benn is also the host of 'Magic Man' on the Travel Channel.
Benn has released a series of videos on Youtube of some of his tricks and illusions, however 'Unreal' will feature the skilled manipulator performing magical feats for celebrities and professional athletes. Juma Entertainment is producing, with Bob Horowitz and Len Webber executive producing. Benn has previously performed for the likes of Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey and U2 frontman Bono.
Benn is highly skilled at what is now called street magic, where unsuspecting passers-by are invited to take part in his illusions. Check out one such trick in the video below. Who doesn't love a good magic trick?
'Unreal' will likely air in early 2014 on FOX.
