IFC has announced the whole star-studded cast for its six-episode miniseries starring Will Ferrell.
Tobey Maguire and Kristen Wiig were previously announced as “The Spoils of Babylon” cast members.
Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer, Tobey Maguire, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen, Tim Robbins and Kristen Wiig are now also confirmed.
The miniseries will be produced by Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Funny Or Die.
“This amazingly talented cast will give this decadent genre its due respect,” Jennifer Caserta, president and general manager of IFC, said. “Never before has a parody of a mini-series been more poised for showers of accolades.
The epic story, said to be the work of fictional famous author Eric Jonrosh (Ferrell) will be along the lines of “The Thorn Birds” and “Winds of War.” It will show a family whole struck it rich in the oil business. They of course end up mixed up in illegal arms deals and international espionage. Ferrell will play the Shah of Iran. Maguire plays Devon Morehouse, who is adopted by Cynthia Morehouse’s (Wiig) family. The two later run the seventh largest company in the world while wrestling with their feelings for each other.
Matt Piedmont (“Casa de mi Padre”) directs and co-wrote the script with Andrew Steele (“Saturday Night Live”). Ferrell, McKay, Steele, Piedmont and Nate Youngwill exec produce.
