FOX News' seemingly never-ending reign of dominance over cable news has begun to extend to cable TV as a whole. FNC was the #1 rated cable network for the month of April, and today brings the news that FOX's 5pm panel discussion program "The Five" has managed to become the #1 rated program in all of in cable for that timeslot. For the past seven days and counting, "The Five" soundly defeated the offerings on top cable channels like Nickelodeon, USA, and TNT.
In addition to those stats, "The Five" has been drawing more total viewers than Comedy Central heavyweights "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" as well. Also, on both May 4th and 6th, "The Five" posted the best numbers of the entire cable day in the prized 25-54 demo. The seven day plus time period in question has been heavy with breaking news about various Washington scandals ending in the word gate, which no doubt contributed to the increased size of the cable news audience. Whether you're a FNC fan or detractor, you can't argue the fact that when big news is going down, most Americans turn to FOX. That doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon.
