Univision announced a new partnership during their upfront presentation today.
The network has forged a partnership with El Rey Network, an upcoming English language cable network from Robert Rodriguez and John Fogelman, and Cristina Patwa’s FactoryMade.
The network will have a mix of reality, scripted, music and sports, along with movies.
Univision also has a partnership with ABC called Fusion, an English-language news network targeted at a Latino audience.
Univision will have two new telenovelas; “La Tempestad” starring William Levy and Ximena Navarrete, a former Miss Universe, and “Mentir para Vivir” starring David Zepeda and Mayrin Vilanueva.
Univision also announced “Va Por Ti,” a new Sunday night singing competition. Univision will also air award show “Premios TyNovelas” covering Hispanic programming in Mexico and the U.S. The show will be presented on delay in the states and Mexico the same day.
Randy Falco, the Univision Communications Inc. president and CEO, told advertisers at the upfront that the company is sitting at an intersection of two growth opportunities, that being the Latino market and digital.
Rodriguez’ work includes “From Dusk Till Dawn” and “Sin City.” The first scripted series for El Rey will be an expansion of “From Dusk Till Dawn.”
