The Jason Collins Express is heading for a mandatory stop - everyone knows that when you break news involving social issues, you do so with Oprah Winfrey's approval and say or else you DO NOT BREAK THE NEWS! Now Collins will be taping an interview with the talk show host for her OWN.
If you did not see this one coming, raise your hand.
Silly internet reader, I cannot see your hands! Put them down already!
Collins' interview with Oprah will appear this Sunday at 8 p.m. Collins, who earlier this week came out as the first openly gay male athlete in American team sports history, has been making the media rounds since his announcement (which came in the form of a Sports Illustrated cover story).
The National Basketball Association center, who last played for the Washington Wizards, will appear on the show with his brother Jarron, who also played in the NBA, as well as his family and friends.
He has also appeared on Good Morning America with George Stephanopoulos after the news broke, as well as talked about coming out with ESPN personality Bill Simmons, who runs the company's Grantland website. A podcast of Simmons and Collins talking can be downloaded on iTunes under the Grantland B.S. Report podcast.
