A television institution is finally making its return. Improv comedy series Whose Line Is It Anyway has been brought back from the grave after a six-year hiatus, it was reported on Friday. The CW is reviving the series this summer for a ninth season, the first following its cancellation back in 2007.
The series will be essentially the same as it was before: the show's main cast members Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, and Ryan Styles are all thankfully returning, though Laura Hall is apparently not.
Drew Carey, who hosted the series during its original runs on ABC and ABC Family, will not be returning for the new series (he's probably too busy hosting The Price Is Right). Instead, Carey will be replaced by comedian Aisha Tyler -- who current TV audiences know as the voice of spy Lana Kane on FX's Archer. (Here's hoping she brings some of her Archer co-stars with her -- how awesome would it be to see Jon Benjamin improv?)
The revived Whose Line Is It Anyway will air ten episodes over summer 2013.
Are you excited to see the series make its return? Will you be tuning in?
I also can't wait for it...the only thing funnier was the Improv-a-ganza like mcw says.
Hmm.. will definitely be interesting to watch with a new host. Hopefully it's able to pick up a strong audience and stay on the air. A couple years ago, they did the "Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza" show which was fun to watch.
