The Morrissey/Jimmy Kimmel controversy wasn't the discord between the musical acts and the guests on last night's talk show circuit. That's thanks to rapper Tyler, The Creator, who appeared on last night's episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to play a couple of songs from his upcoming album, Wolf. Also appearing on last night's episode? Donald Trump.
Tyler's musical performances were weird, even by his standards. For the first of the two songs he performed, "TreeHome," he didn't even stand up from behind his piano (or rap, or sing). He just played the piano for another singer, providing occasional accent vocals. Then, for the next song, "Domo23" (the lead single from Wolf), he was rapping and jumping around the stage, eventually standing on the piano. It was an impenetrable performance for anyone not familiar with Tyler or his Odd Future rap collective, but it was crackling with energy.
But backstage, the antics continued. An instagram photo surfaced of Taco Bennett (a non-rapping member of Odd Future and one of the stars, along with Tyler, of Adult Swim's Loiter Squad) posing for a friendly photo with Donald Trump, while Tyler photobombed in the background. The caption for the photo when Tyler tweeted it was characteristic: "Donald Musty Ass."
Sure, the antic was immature, but if anybody deserves to be mocked, it's probably Donald Trump.
Trump took to Twitter the next day to give his two cents on the photo: "Was photo bombed yesterday by a wise guy when I left the set of @LateNightJimmy... …..Guy in front asked for picture- said he was the biggest fan, never saw the guy in back."
You can watch more of Tyler and Taco's antics in the second season of their series Loiter Squad, which premieres March 10 on Adult Swim. Tyler's album 'Wolf' hits shelves April 2.
