Review: Dexter 7.06 'Do the Wrong Thing'

Dexter Season 7, Episode 6 "Do the Wrong Thing"

Last week I asked you, TVRage viewers, to tell me why you keep watching Dexter. Unfortunately, none of you did – am I alone in this? How do I get off the damned island too?

We start out with Dexter showing up late to a meeting, angering his sister Deb. But Dexter is focused on Isaac, who is behind bars, and the lovely Hannah. Can Dexter convince Hannah he is not a threat, by helping adjust some of the info in the death of Hannah’s husband?

Isaac is accosted in jail by an angry Hispanic inmate, but quickly exhibits his dominance by breaking the hand of the would-be assailant. Ray Stevenson is carrying this season. He is believable as the badass Russian criminal heavy. Don’t they record prison phones though? This bugged me last week and again this week. Isaac talks about potentially killing people in prison – no big deal! And he learns bad info about Quinn, something that you would never share on a prison phone.

Dexter shows off his stalking abilities, as he knows Hannah’s schedule and shows up at her house. Dexter apologies for accusing her of murder (even though he still believes it), and it seems like Hannah buys his sweet words. I think ol’ Dexter has a crush! Female viewers – do you all garden in a see-through white t-shirt and black bra like Hannah does? Hannah seems uncomfortable talking about her husband’s death, but it seems like Dexter talking about Rita’s death softens her up a bit. Dexter begins working out Hannah’s path of (possible) murder and we learn that Hannah’s mentor died as well, with the mentor leaving everything to Hannah. But did Hannah kill her? Well, a third “victim” seems to fit the poisoning theory. And three is a pattern.

Dexter breaks into the author’s place and downloads all his Hannah info (the author, Price, thinks that Hannah is a killer too).  Dexter sure bails on work a lot to break the law, doesn’t he? There seems to be proof that the mentor was murdered, but does that make Hannah guilty? She shows up at his place, to give him a flower. Love is in the air, kids! The flower she picks resembles a blood pattern – she knows him so well!

Deb meets with LaGuerta and learns that LaGuerta is diving head first into the Bay Harbor Butcher case. LaGuerta is starting to tie Dexter’s past crimes to him, even though she does not know it is him. Her logic is a stretch. There are ways they could do this that would without being so heavy handed, but they insist on forcing the issue. We touch back to Lumen – will Julia Stiles be showing up? A Lumen versus Hannah catfight would be awesome.

Quinn tells his lady friend about his dirty background and taking money from George. She denies knowing anything about it and urges him to give it back. “What good is money if you are dead?” He gives the money back and I am sure everything is just peachy now. Quinn meets up with George and Quinn tells George that he will “put a bullet in his f------ head.” If Quinn does not lose the evidence linking Isaac to his past crimes, bad stuff will be coming his way. Can he earn Nadia’s freedom?

The second half of the show dragged. Dexter talked Hannah into a date, in a scene that dragged. Deb got a date as well, after Batista is revealed to be considering retiring to open a restaurant because he wants a life (Deb wants a life, too). Deb learned that Hannah might be a bad girl and that Dexter might have told her some bogus info in regards to that. Until…

Hannah ends up on the slab. Dexter shows Hannah snow, which she has always dreamed of. Hannah shows no fear, telling Dexter to do what he has to do. Instead of killing her, he cuts her free. In addition, that turns both of them on and their encounter takes a romantic plunge.

THIS SHOW, SERIOUSLY!

oh i just can't stop loving the show, i don't know if it's because i love the books so much, but i'll be watching it until the end! deb finding out that dex is a serial killer in the books is much more entertaining, plus laguerta dies very quickly, since i hate her guts i guess she should die already!! she has no place in the show, not anymore, she's just a pain in the ass right now! might not be as good as it was, but we just can't stop watching it! :D

And yet we're all still watching... Not only that, but I, at least, am still mildly entertained, even while acknowledging that the level of writing has been steadily deteriorating. Of course, we will keep on watching, largely because we want to find out what will happen next. Be it silly or absurd (as is the trend), we still long for brilliance.

Seriously, this is a great show and will watch it to the end. I personally didn't answer your request because there are lots of news stories, here and almost everywhere. They're easy to miss. I comment A LOT, but it's just not possible to see each and every article on here and have a life too. Love Dexter, always will no matter how silly you may think it's become.
