I have to admit, I have been in nerd heaven the last few days, after the news that Disney was purchasing LucasArts and reviving the Star Wars series. Sure, the prequels were rubbish, but a new trilogy that doesn't have George Lucas at the helm AND tells an original story. Sign me up, brother!
(SIDEBAR: How awesome is Disney World going to be when they have LucasLand and Marvel World? Super amazing or just really freaking amazing?)
A lot of speculation is floating around about what is going to happen to various Star Wars properties already on air/publication. And it appears that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is going to be leaving the Cartoon Network for Disney's Disney XD channel.
Turner has the SW:TCW license through the end of this season. The two sides (Turner and Luacasfilm) were renewing the deal on a yearly basis.
Disney CEO Roger Iger believes that there are big opportunities for Star Wars content on Disney/ABC channels and Clone Wars fits the bill. It has been one of the Cartoon Network's top rated series and a steady gainer in audience.
Cartoon Network still has some rerun rights, but it is not clear for how long. All that can be confirmed is that it can air episodes through 2013.
As long as they aren't going to put the show on hold/hiatus during whatever transition, that's fine... I've been watching the show since the 2008 movie came out...
"but a new trilogy that doesn't have George Lucas at the helm"
Lucas may not be at the *helm* for any new Star Wars movies, but since he's attached to Disney/Lucasfilm as a consultant for said movies, you'd better believe that they'll still be following his 'vision' for them...for better or worse.
