Yes, it was a close race filled with backstabbing, secret alliances, preaching and manipulation, but Survivor: South Pacific has named their new survivor. The vote came as a shock to a lot of people as the race to the Final Three was anyone’s game. With Brandon out of the competition it was up to Benjamin "Coach" Wade, Rick, Albert Destrade and Sophie Clarke to wait and see who was going to be coming back into the game. After an intense duel on Redemption Island, Brandon lost and Ozzy was back in the game of Survivor. To make matters worse for the team from the original six, later they were shocked when Ozzy won immunity and was able to stay through to the Final Four. This made it clear that Rick or Albert or Sophie were going to go home, mainly due to the fact that Coach had an idol. As the vote came down, it was Rick who went home.
The last Immunity Challenge was in site and the after a close race, it was Sophie who won the immunity and made it possible to keep their original vow and Coach, Albert and Sophie were in the Final Three. The jury took their stab at each of the contestants and asked why they deserved the $1 Million. You can read the full recap HERE. After all the name calling and praise and disgust, the voting commenced. After 39 days on Survivor the winner of Survivor: South Pacific is…Sophie Clarke. The Medical Student from Willsboro, New York took the title of Survivor and was grateful as she thanked everyone and ran to her family waiting in the audience when the vote was read. However, it is not all bad for the fan favorite, Ozzy. He won the Player of the Season and picked up $100,000. The game was played the way it is always played, full of deceit and backstabbing. Despite Brandon’s plea that everyone play it honorably, the Final Three originally didn’t have any votes going their way.
In the end, Sophie was declared the winner and is able to win the $1 Million (of course that is less after taxes). Hopefully Sophie remembers to pay the taxes and not have to face an audit like a famous Survivor winner of the past. Congratulation goes to Sophie for Outwitting, Outplaying and eventually Outlasting the rest of the contestants. Tune in to Season 24 “One World” airing February 15, 2012.
