Powers to be be shown on Spike in the UK

From the team who produced The Walking Dead comes Powers an edgy police crime drama starring Eddie Izzard which turns the concept of superheroes on their head and asks: what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t heroic at all?

Powers follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker played by Sharlto Copley (District 9, Maleficent) and Deena Pilgrim played by Susan Heyward (666 Park Avenue, 30 Rock).  The ensemble cast includes Emmy® Award winning British actor and comedian Eddie Izzard (Valkyrie, Oceans Thirteen, Oceans Twelve, Hannibal) who plays villain Wolfe,  Noah Taylor (Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders), Michelle Forbes (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, True Blood, The Returned), Olesya Rulin (Halloween High, High School Musical), Max Fowler (Wolf Hall, The Killing), Adam Godley (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Homeland), and Logan Browning (Bratz, Meet The Browns).

The Powers Division is assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as ‘Powers’.   Set amidst the immediacy of today’s social media culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes that aren’t actually heroic at all.  What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?  The Powers Division is brave enough to go up against the overpaid, commercialised, super humans imposing their power over those who both worship and fear them.

Anna-Belen Dunlop, Acting Acquisitions and Channel Manager at Spike comments: “I’m delighted to welcome edgy crime drama, Powers to the Spike schedule.  With great cast and impressive effects, it’s an exciting twist on the superhero genre.  I’m sure our audience will enjoy it as much as From Dusk Till Dawn, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.”

The series is based on the graphic novel series of the same name, and is executive produced by the team behind Caprica (the prequel to Battlestar Galactica) and iconic comics including Marvel’s Ultimate series, Daredevil and Judge Dredd.  Powers is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

The series will be shown from May.
