Imagining ‘Mad Men’ without Christina Hendricks as the snappy, smart and beautiful Joan is impossible, but Hendricks was urged desperately by her agency to turn down the roll.
Hendricks recently told The Guardian that when she was offered the role of Joan on ‘Mad Men’ that her manager backed her decision, but her agent was not on board. "They said, 'It's a period piece. It's never going to go anywhere. We need you to make money, and this isn't going to make money.' They ended up dropping me," says Hendricks.
This obviously did not stop Hendricks from taking the role anyways. Having been on several shows that were supposed to be big hits, but never made it, Hendricks had no problem with taking the leap. “There was no sure bet, and I'd already taken a chance on them and I felt, why not do the one you're in love with and take a chance on that?"
Hendricks’ former agent is probably kicking themselves now as ‘Mad Men’ went on to be hugely successful and a wonderful showcase for Hendricks’ talent.
