Charlie Cox is the latest hero coming to Netflix by taking on a daring character.
The ‘Boardwalk Empire’ alum has officially landed the leading role in ‘Daredevil,’ sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. He’s set to star as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer by day and crime-fighting hero by night in the 13-episode drama.

Cox is the first cast in the series based on the Marvel Entertainment comics of the same name, which is now being run by ‘Spartacus’ alum Steven S. DeKnight. ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Lost’ alum Drew Goddard was set to serve as showrunner, but after signing on to Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off, ‘Sinister Six,’ he was replaced by DeKnight. Goddard will remain as an executive producer and serve as a consultant.
No official confirmation has been announced, but it is expected to come shortly. Latino Review was the first to report of Cox’s casting.

In addition to ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ Cox was previously attached to CBS’ untitled Wall Street drama from John Cusack, but that pilot did not move forward at the network. Last year, he starred in CBS’ drama pilot ‘The Ordained,’ which, again, did not move forward. Cox also starred in another comic adaptation, ‘Stardust,’ in 2007.
In addition to ‘Daredevil,’ Netflix has also picked up ‘Jessica Jones,’ ‘Iron Fist,’ ‘Luke Cage,’ and the miniseries ‘The Defenders.’
