There is definitely more ‘Motive’ coming for fans of the detective procedural, but for now it’s only going to on its Canadian broadcaster.
The drama series, which hails from the Great White North, has been renewed by CTV for a third season, while ABC, which picks up and airs the show Stateside, has yet to make a decision. That is mostly due to the fact that the second season is only about to get underway in the United States.

With two episodes left, Season 2 of ‘Motive’ has averaged 1.3 million viewers in Canada (converted to American, that’s pretty impressive) and comes to a close on May 29. In America, meanwhile, the second season premieres tonight, May 21 at 10/9c on ABC. The 13 episodes will continue to run on Wednesdays through the summer.
As the name indicates, ‘Motive’ follows a group of detectives looking to discover the intent of crimes before actually identifying the criminal. Actress Kristin Lehman is lead detective Angie Flynn, a single mother, while her partner Oscar Vega is played by Louis Ferreira. The series, which comes from ‘Dexter’ and ‘Mentalist’ producer Daniel Cerone, also stars Lauren Holly, Warren Christie, Valerie Tian and Brendan Penny.
Season 3 will begin production this fall in Vancouver, where the series also takes places.
