Ovation, the only multi-platform network celebrating art, artists and all forms of artistic storytelling, will premiere its original three-part series, "Motor City Rising", on Friday, June 1 at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. Episodes 2 and 3 of the series will air on Friday, June 8 and Friday, June 15, respectively, at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. The riveting docu-series explores the lives of Detroit locals fighting to thrive and survive in a city many have given up on. These urban pioneers are a mix of a new breed of artists, creative entrepreneurs and dreamers working to put Detroit back on top, while making their own mark in the community and leaving a positive impact on the city.
Detroit, which is one of the top cities in the country for creativity, is evolving and attracting a melting pot of artistic entrepreneurs. "Motor City Rising" shines the spotlight on a few of the most ingenious as they pursue their dreams, hang on to hope and realize their city’s true potential.
Some of the Detroit enterprising locals featured in the series include Sean Forbes, a deaf rapper and founder of the Deaf Professional Arts Network; Treger Strasberg, co-founder of Humble Design, which rescues discarded furniture to assist families from homeless/abuse shelters; artist and performer Nina Friday, who fled Russia and chose to settle in Detroit; Kyle Kentala, a DJ, who is referred to as the “Mayor of the Detroit Underground Scene”; Veronika Scott, a design student who invented a coat for the homeless, which turns into a sleeping bag; and Anthony Salinger, a young comic, battling cancer.
