» R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Respect is a two way deal. "Treat others as you would want to be treated". You are to respect yourself, other members, and the staff at all times. If you are disrespecting others, don't expect respect back in return. Disrespect in any way, shape, or form, could result in suspension, or possible ban. It's fine to disagree with people (that includes moderators), but don’t go throwing around random insults.
» Conduct Unbecoming A Member
We realize that TVRage is not perfect, nor do we ever claim it to be. And criticism is usually par for the course when it comes to formatting, policy and decision making. We as a staff welcome comments and criticisms, as long as they are valid and constructive. However, adding unnecessary commentary for the sake of adding is not allowed. If it appears that you are getting involved in an argument just to get involved, trying to cause problems or incite anger, or take a specific stance out of spite, you will be suspended. You can only be banned for this if you continue to do this after returning from suspension.
» Management Harassment
In general, the staff expect to deal with many, many issues on a daily basis. However, there is a fine line between asking for help and demanding results. Management Harassment is NOT tolerated under any circumstance. If a staff member feels that you are harassing them, you will be warned that you have crossed the line and that you need to back off quickly. After that, they reserve the right to either suspend or ban you depending on how your behavior continues from that point.
» Ban Dodging
Ban Dodging is never acceptable. Ban dodging is when your current account has been suspended or banned, and you make another to avoid the suspension or ban. If you are caught ban dodging, your new account will be banned, and you will be IP banned if possible. If you are caught suspension dodging, your new and old account will be banned. You will also face possible IP ban.
» Double Accounts
Double Accounts are only allowed in certain circumstances. Making a double account for the hell of it is not acceptable. If your double account(s) is found, it will be banned, and you will face possible suspension or even ban, depending what was done on your double account. If you believe you have a good reason to make a double account, please contact a Global Moderator, Site Moderator, or Site Admin.

Keep in mind, double accounts should ALWAYS be passed by the staff before being made in ALL cases. Even if you've had a double account approved in the past for a similar situation.
» Password Sharing
The giving out and/or sharing of Passwords is strictly forbidden under all circumstances. Especially if you are an editor, or higher power, since you are no longer only jeopardizing your account, but the site's well-being and information. If you are currently sharing your password we encourage you to stop immediately, because if you are found doing so you will face suspension or possible ban.
» Blogs
Blogs are your own personal journals, however the material posted in them is still limited by the TVRage standards, and is not to be misused. Any Blog which contains inappropriate content will be deleted by the Moderators, and you may also face additional punishment. Also, do not misuse your power over your own Blog. Comments are only to be deleted if they contain spam, or other inappropriate content. Not because you don't like the member who posted it, or what they said. You may say "But it's MY Blog". Which is true, but you have the option to not allow comments to be posted at all. If you choose to allow them, then you are leaving yourself open to all kinds of opinions and criticisms which you must accept. Misusing your own power will leave you open to appropriate punishment.
Advertisement of other/your site(s) or forum(s) is allowed, but only in certain places. You may advertise other/your site(s) or forum(s) in the Members' Lounge or in your blog. If you advertise in any other forum your thread may be moved, locked, or deleted. You may also face possible suspension, or ban depending on the number of times you've advertised in the wrong place, and the site(s) you've advertised. As for advertising in show forums; it is the editor’s choice as to allow or disallow advertisements. You are, however, allowed to link off the site. Which means you are allowed to post links to other sites when it is appropriate and is not meant as an advertisement.
» Topic Titles
When making Topic Titles, please, try to think of a meaningful title that indicates what your thread is about - don't make threads titled "Question", "I don't get it" or "Maybe I'm wrong but...". It's easier for everyone to help you out when you have a question or want to engage in an interesting discussion, if the threads have appealing titles. If people have to open all the threads to find out what they are about, because they have evasive titles, most of them may not collaborate. The Staff reserves the right to rename threads to a better suited title. Also, do not write Topic Titles all in CAPITALS, it is very annoying.
» Spamming
Spamming is possibly the worst forum crime you can commit, and will always get you in a lot of trouble. Spamming is making Posts or Topics that have nothing to do with the situation at hand, or anything at all. Such as making Topic Titles consisting of random letters or numbers like "`3hj1`hj33u3j" or posts like such. If you spam, you will most likely always be banned right away, lesser sentences being a long suspension; depending on the amount and type of spam you've posted.
» Flaming
Flaming is being disrespectful, or using harsh words, to/against another member. Flaming is also one of the worst forum crimes you can commit. Flaming is not allowed under any circumstance. If you are not mature enough to carry on a heated conversation or debate without turning to flaming, then stay away from the topic. You are not to flame anyone. Do not flame trolls, spammers, flooders, or even other flamers. Just report them to the staff, and we will take care of them. Flaming will result in at least a suspension, going up to a possible ban or even IP ban. This does not mean that you cannot joke around with your friends, but do not just expect others will know you are joking. Post cautiously.
» Trolling
Trolling is basically mindless posting, such as posting asking questions which have obvious meanings, or using forms of sarcasm to flame or disrespect others. Enticing others to flame is also considered trolling; along with posting threads like "[insert show name] sucks!!!11!" in the main or show forums. Continuous Trolling after being warned will earn you at least a suspension, or possible ban.
» Flooding
Flooding is posting a large amount of Topics within a small amount of time. Flooding is not allowed, and is considered as a form of spam and/or trolling. If caught Flooding, you will be warned. Choosing to ignore this warning will result in a suspension or even ban from posting topics in the forum.
» Topic Bumping
Bumping topics is strictly prohibited! Bumping is a form of Spamming and will be treated as thus. Furthermore, the thread in question may be locked at the discretion of the moderators.

  • What is bumping?
    • Posting something useless with the sole purpose of bringing the thread to the top of the forum.

  • How can you tell what the purpose of a post is?
    • Simple: If a topic has reached the bottom of the first page, or more to the point, the second page or beyond, and you add no new 'content', that's considered "bumping".

  • How can you determine what 'content' is?
    • Again, very easy: if you are posting something that adds to the development and progression of the thread – as opposed to reactions and emoticons – then that is "content".

» Posting Locations
Posting in the right places is something very important to keep in mind while posting, as it saves us Moderators a lot of trouble. Try to use common sense with this. If you need help with something, post in the Help & Support, not the Suggestions forum. If you have a suggestion, post it in the Suggestions forum, not the Help and Support. If you find a bug, post about it in the Bug forum, not the Help & Support forum, so on and so forth. If you are confused about the difference between the Members' Lounge and the Recreation Forum, please see this thread. If you post in the wrong place, your thread will most likely be moved, locked, or deleted. Posting in the wrong places excessively could earn you a suspension.
» Meaningless Posting
Meaningless Posting such as one word posts, and posting simply to increase your post count is strictly forbidden. One word posts are allowed, but try not to over use them, as this can be considered Trolling. Same goes for posts only consisting of emoticons (smilies). Posting to increase your post count, however, is considered Trolling. And if you are found/noticed doing so, you will receive an appropriate punishment, depending on the situation.
» Under The Influence
Posting while intoxicated, under the use of drugs, or while sleep deprived, should always be avoided. While under any of the circumstances, you are still responsible for your actions. You will still be appropriately punished for any rules you violate. As example, posting meaningless posts while under the influence of alcohol will still be considered spamming.
» Cursing
Cursing is tolerated. For those of you who do not wish to see curse words, there is an optional censor which you can turn off/on from your Main Settings. However, do not push your limits. Cursing inappropriately or excessively will earn you suspension or even possible ban in a severe case. Also, you are never, ever, to use bad language against another member. This is considered flaming, and you will be punished.
» Sexual Material
Posting Sexually Explicit material in the forums, or elsewhere, is strictly forbidden. If caught doing so, you will be immediately banned, and possibly IP banned. It is also strictly forbidden to post links to sites which contain such material.
» Vandalism
Vandalism is not tolerated under any circumstance. If it has been discovered that you have destroyed a guide, screwed around with the information, on just deleted material without any specific reasoning, you will be banned for good immediately. On top of which, we keep records of all material contained both weekly and monthly. Whatever you do will be erased and restored to it's original form shortly after your removal. So basically, it's pointless to even bother doing it.
» Loss of Editorship (added 2/2/14)
If an editor is absent without leave from the site for 100 days or more they will be removed without notice from their guide(s).

If a show has an editor and it is currently in season but the editor isn't making any submissions to the guide then the member will be contacted.

If a show has an editor and it is currently in season but the editor hasn't contributed anything to the guide in over 30 days they will also be contacted.

If staff are having to constantly handle submissions made to guides with editors - past the 36 hour mark, the editor of the guide(s) in question will be contacted.

If the editor does not respond to any correspondence they receive within 7 days they will be removed from the guide(s) they were responsible for.

We have no issue with anyone returning at a later date and reapplying for any editorships.
» Abuse of Editor Power
If you believe an editor is abusing their power, including problems with forum moderation, denying contributions with no basis for rejecting or banning members from posting and/or contributing without a legitimate reason, please notify a staff member as soon as possible and they will look into the problems.

If it is concluded that the editor is in fact abusing their powers as an editor by the staff as a whole, action taken against the editor may include a warning, removal of editor duties for the guide in question, or removal of all editorship privileges. Remember, TVRage is a site built by fans for fans and it takes contributions from everyone in order for TVRage to continue to be a user-friendly and user-build community.
