Variety reports that Law & Order received a 3.1/9 in 18-49 and Zap2it and Thefutoncritic report a 7.5/13...who is right? I don't understand ratings that well |

Guess: they are different ratings systems, since one has a maximum of 9 and the other 13. They must measure in different ways/different test groups. |

But you'd think Nielson Ratings should all be standardized don't you? |

Are you certain that they are all reporting Nielsen and that they are all reporting the same category/age group? |

I can't find the Variety quote about Law & Order, but TheFutonCritic and Zap2It's 7.5/13 isn't for 18-49 - it's for households.
TheFutonCritic has the 18-49 as 3.2, which is just .1 off. See #7 in the FutonCritic Ratings FAQ about that, as well as #5-6 about Neilsen having different kind of measurements that are reported at different times, leading to different places reporting sometimes very different numbers.
Also, for clarification, the top number is the percent of all households (or whatever) that watched the show and the bottom number is the percent of all households-that-were-watching-TV that watched the show. |

I had seen that article, but it doesn't have numbers, which was why I was confused.
The Nielsen ratings are rather confusing at first, and it can be especially tough because there's not really a good brief explanation of them - at least not that I found when I was trying to learn about them. Actually, TheFutonCritic's FAQ is pretty good as far as those things go.
(Also, I constantly misspell "Nielsen" - see previous post that I now can't edit - even though I should remember the "i before e" thing.) |
