Am I the only individual on this site who was foolish enough to attempt to get broadband connection via a satellite? As many people know, I used to have a 26k connection, though due to the frustrating slowness, my household decided to save up the 500 dollars in order to pay the installation fee in order to get a satellite connection. It took some time, though being able to download files with ease and at any time you want seemed to be something that would be worth it.

Or so I thought.

It turns out, there is a limit with satellite connections that prevents you from downloading too much. This limit is an absurd 150 MB and since our household is routing the connection between three computers, just checking out websites meets that limitation far too quickly. Once the 150 MB limit is reached, they strip us from our privileges and we’re stuck with speeds slower than my old 26k connection, for roughly four to eight hours, depending on the circumstances.

Living on a mountain, it’s not like we have a choice. It’s either this limited broadband or a 26k connection, though I find it absurd that I’m going to be forced to download a 160 MB file over the course of days, if not weeks, just to be able to slowly obtain it without overstepping the limitation that I was forced with. I suppose I shouldn’t ramble on, though I just don’t see the logic in what they’re doing and it really frustrates me.

Regardless, I just wished to ask if anybody else had ever experiences broadband connection via a satellite, or is currently using such, as I want to see if there are any other victims who may share my predicament.

I was unaware that broadband was offered by Satellite. Anyway, I do have a 26k modem back in St. Louis, where I officially reside, though I'm staying in California with a Comcast Digital Cable broadband modem, in which I have a computer with a speed faster than DSL.

What? No, I never had a 56k connection, due to the quality of the telephones on the mountain where I live. The best dial-up connection I could have obtained as 26k connection, which connected me at 26,400 BPS.

Oh gosh, I'm glad I didn't get it with my satellite service then ... I couldn't handle being limited like that. Currently we use a cable connection.
