Doctor Who devotees will probably be disappointed by An Adventure in Space and Time (2013), a movie biography about the birth of the beloved series on the BBC in 1963. I found it engrossing. The production is long on character and atmosphere, reminiscent of British dramas like The Remains of the Day or The Dresser, and short on Doctor Who trivia. It mainly concerns William (Bill) Hartnell (played by David Bradley), the ageing actor who finds out that he is replaceable as the first Doctor and, unlike the Doctor, quite mortal.
