In 1992 there appeared a movie called
A League of their Own. The film was a baseball movie about a female baseball league created by the major league baseball owners back during WWII when a large number of baseball players were off fighting in the war. The film was then followed in 1993 by a short-lived (5 episode) comedy on CBS.
Jon Lovitz again appeared as Ernie Capadino, while
Tom Hanks was replaced by
Sam McMurray in the part of Coach Jimmy Dugan,
Carey Lowell took on the
Geena Davis movie role (Dottie Hinson),
Christine Elise played the Kit Keller role (assumed by
Lori Petty in the movie),
Tracy Nelson took over the Evelyn Gardner role (
Bitty Schram in the movie), Tracy Reiner appeared as Betty Horn (just like in the movie),
Madonna’s Mae Mordabito role was taken over by
Wendy Makkena in the television version of the story, and
Rosie O'Donnell’s character, Doris Murphy, was played by
Katie Rich in the tv version.
