A Bit of A Do was a comedy series based on the books of David Nobbs (specifically
A Bit Of A Do and
Another Do). The series focuses on two families, the lower/working class Simcocks and the middle-class Rodenhursts, and also on their friends. The action in each episode is set against a social function (a "do"; for example, the first episode is set against the background of a wedding, and other episodes focus on funerals, holiday parties, store opening parties, dinners, etc.).
The series was nominated for three awards in 1990, and won two of them.
David Jason, as Ted Simcok, won the British Comedy Award for Best TV Comedy Actor (British Comedy Awards). The series as a whole won the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Entertainment.
Gwen Taylor , as Rita Simcock, was nominated BAFTA for Best Actress (TV).
